Nilgiris Biosphere

Over this 3 day tour from Bangalore we will appreciate the rich bio diversity of Nilgiris Biosphere. We will do a wildlife safari in Bandipur, the erstwhile hunting grounds of the Mysore Maharaja. Bandipur is a thriving wild life reserve today and provides a rare opportunity to spot several endangered species. We will take an evening safari as well as a morning safari to maximize the chances of wildlife spotting. We will also visit the scenic hill station of Ooty. The highlight here is a memorable ride in the toy train of Nilgiris from Ooty to Coonor which is a world heritage site.

Wildlife Safari

The safari is over 2.5 hours and we will do it in late afternoon and then early morning the next day. Bandipur Wildlife Reserve was established in 1974 as a tiger reserve under Project Tiger, and was once a private hunting reserve for the Maharaja of the Kingdom of Mysore. The park spans an area of 874 square kilometers (337 sq mi), protecting several species of India’s endangered wildlife like Indian elephants, gaurs, tigers, sloth bears, muggers, Indian rock pythons, four-horned antelopes, jackals and dholes.

Ooty

We visit a unique Museum, India’s first Chocolate museum! Here we get to learn the entire process of making chocolates from cocoa beans stage to the final packaged goodie stage. We visit the famous Rose Garden with 3,600 varieties of roses, the garden possesses one of the largest such collections in the country. Doddabetta, the tallest peak in Ooty beckons us. At a height of 2,637 m (8,650 ft), the peak looks out across the Nilgiris. It is a spectacular view from the highest point in the Nilgiri ranges.

Nilgiri Mountain Railway

The exclusive toy train was built by Britishers who travelled to the magnificent hill station seeking relief from the heat and enjoying its salubrious weather. The toy train is world heritage site, declared by UNESCO.
