Hemis Monastery
Hemis is a 17th century Buddhist shrine which was re-established in 1672. This famous monastery in Ladakh is of the Drukpa Lineage of Buddhism. The highlight of this visit is the vast collection of ancient relics, murals, and scriptures, including a copper-gilded Buddha statue, gold and silver stupas, and numerous tibetan paintings.
Khardungla Pass
It is a memorable experience to drive over one of the Highest Motorable Roads in the World. Stunning panoramic vistas of the surrounding snow-capped Himalayan peaks and the deep valleys below greet us. The mighty Karakoram range in the distance and the vastness of the Ladakh landscape is the highlight.
Thiksey Gompa
Noted for its resemblance to the Potala Palace in Tibet, Thiksey Monastery is the largest gompa in central Ladakh. The monastery is home to a magnificent 15-meter high statue of Maitreya Buddha, the Future Buddha
Shey Palace
Built in the 17th century by King Deldan Namgyal, Shey Palace served as the royal seat before the capital shifted to Leh. Even after the move, it remained the summer retreat for the kings. The palace showcases a blend of traditional Tibetan and Ladakhi architectural styles, evident in its stonework, whitewashed walls, and intricate woodwork.
Druk Padma School
The Druk White Lotus School is a Buddhist cultural school in the Shey valley, near the Shey Monastery and Palace. It is well-known as the Rancho School from the Bollywood film 3-idiots.
Magnetic Hill
Magneitc hill is a small stretch of road that which appears defies the phenomenon of gravity! When you stop your car at a specific marked spot on the road, put it in neutral, it appears to roll uphill against gravity.
Pangong lake
Situated at a height of almost 4,350m, is the world’s highest saltwater lake. Its water, which seems to be dyed in blue, stand in stark contrast to the arid mountains surrounding it. Extending to almost 160km, one-third of the Pangong Lake lies in India and the other two-thirds in China
Leh Palace
Leh Palace was constructed by Tsewang Namgyal the founder of the Namgyal dynasty of Ladakh, in 1553. While the upper floors of the palace were used as the residence, the lower floors comprised of stables and storerooms.
Diskit Monastery
Perched dramatically on a hilltop overlooking the vast expanse of the Nubra Valley and the Shyok River, the monastery offers breathtaking panoramic views of the rugged Himalayas. The highlight is the magnificent Maitreya Buddha Statue towering 32-meterjust below the monastery.
Kalachakra Stupa
We will next visit kalachakra stupa. It is a rare Buddhist Stupa created to protect against negative energies.
Shanti Stupa
Shanti Stupa was built to promote world peace and prosperity as well as to commemorate 2500 years of Buddhism. Underneath the stupa is a relic of the Buddha himself.
