Breadthtaking Chandigarh

In this 3 day Chandigarh tour from Delhi, we will explore the first planned city of India, designed by the legendary architect Le Corbusier like a human body. After exploring the world heritage site of Capitol Complex, Art Museum and the novel Rock Garden built with waste material, we will visit Anantpur Saheb the holy city of the Sikhs. The enchanting Naina Devi Temple and Bhakra Nangal, the world’s second tallest dam are the other highlights.

Le Corbusier’s Master Plan

Chandigarh is India’s first planned city and was designed like the human body by Le Corbusier. It has clearly defined head in the form of Capitol Complex, Sector 1, heart in the form of the City Centre Sector-17), lungs by way of the leisure valley, the intellect by way of the cultural and educational institutions), the circulatory system in the form the network of roads, the 7Vs) and the viscera which is formed by the Industrial Area.

The Capitol

The Capitol Complex is a world heritage site. It is made up of three concrete buildings: the Palace of Assembly or Legislative Assembly, the Secretariat and the High Court. It is the best example of applying modernistic theories on a grand scale!

Museum & Art Gallery

Another architectural gem of Le Corbusier, this building’s collection comprises Indian miniature paintings, metal sculptors, decorative art and contemporary Indian art. A few ancient manuscripts are another highlight if this museum. We will next visit the national gallery of portraits which is dedicated to Indian independence movement rising from the year 1857 and features paintings of leading Indian freedom fighters. The international dolls museum is a quaint section with dolls and puppets from 25 countries including Denmark, Netherlands, Germany, Korea, Spain and Russia.

Anandpur Saheb

It is considered as the holiest place of Sikh religion where Shiri Guru Gobind Singh Ji spent 25 years of his life teaching and guiding his disciples. Anandpur Saheb is also the birth place of the Khalsa, a special group of initiated Sikhs, as well as a community that considers Sikhism as its faith. The Khalsa tradition was initiated in 1699 by the last living Guru of Sikhism, Guru Gobind Singh. Its formation was a key event in the history of Sikhism.

Bhakra Nangal Dam

Bhakra-Nangal Dam is the second tallest dam in Asia and located in the border of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. It is the highest straight gravity dam in India with the height of about 207.26 meters and it runs across 168.35 km. Its water is primarily used for irrigation. It has ten hydroelectric power generators on each of its sides with the total capacity of 1325 MW.

Farm Walk

Punjab is the food bowl of India. Most of the country’s wheat is grown here. Punjab got its name due to the 5 rivers running through it, which make it the most fertile in India. A walk through a farm will give a feel for this land!

Rock Garden

Nek Chand Rock Garden is a sculpture garden in Chandigarh. Located in a gorge in a forest near Sukhna Lake, Rock Garden is a unique Garden made up of recycled scrap material. It has been created in the lines of Sukrani, a divine kingdom as per the vision of its founder Nek Chand. Spread over 40 acres, the Garden has beautiful creations made up of industrial waste, home waste and throw-away items! The Rock Garden is not only beatuiful but also an inspiration for Sustainable Living.

Naina Devi

Naina Devi Temple is situated on a hilltop overlooking the Gobind Sagar lake. The temple is connected with National Highway No. 21 and accessible via a cable car ride from the base point. It is also widely regarded as one of the Shakti Peetha which are pilgrimage destinations in Shaktism, the goddess-focused Hindu tradition.
