A very enjoyable and informative tour of the onion, banana and coconut markets and temples of Madurai. We had a very enjoyable 3 hour tour of the markets and temples of Madurai. Our tour guide Mani was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend.

Great walk in Madurai We really enjoyed our walk with Five Senses guide Muthu. We received very clear information about where to meet our guide well ahead of the walk from the team at 5 Senses. Muthu was friendly and knowledgeable and answered a lot of questions for us about everything we saw. This is a great way to get orientated in the centre of Madurai and uncover some of the working life of the daily markets and how they work - things one wouldn’t know or notice just walking past without a local guide. And also very interesting to better undersdd reams the symbolism, sorrows and rituals in the amazing Meenakshi Temple. Thanks very much Muthu and 5 Senses Walks.

Great walking tour We did a great morning tour with Guide Muthu. He was very knowledgeable and shared lots of interesting info about Madurai’ history and culture. We really enjoyed walking through the markets with Muthu pointing out the details of how it all works from change providers to wholesalers bargaining with their customers. A great way to be immersed into ancient Madurai A fascinating and highly rewarding tour with Meenakshi Sundaram, who has lived in Madurai all his life and is even named after the temple! Meenakshi tailored the tour to my interests and used his local knowledge to ensure I saw everything that would be important to me during my stay. This included an unscheduled stop at Arulmigu Subramaniya Swami Temple which backs onto a huge rock, and the neighbouring school where boys learn to become Hindu priests. Both places I was so glad to have opportunity to see. The pace of the tour was perfect, with Meenakshi seeking my feedback regularly to adapt to my needs. A great way to see the very many important sights in Madurai.
