RESPONSIBLE TOURISM

Travel that leaves a community stronger than it found it.

Every responsible journey with 5 Senses Tours is built with the people who keep India’s living traditions alive. They are paid directly, they set the pace, and they decide what to share. You arrive as a guest. You leave as a friend of a craft, a harvest or a temple that has outlasted empires.

RECOGNISED FOR THE WAY WE TRAVEL

Honoured with the Outlook Responsible Tourism Award.

The Outlook Responsible Tourism Award recognises operators whose travel gives something lasting to the places and people it touches.

In 2025, 5 Senses Tours was named Silver Winner in the Rural Experiences and Cultural Immersion category at the Outlook Responsible Tourism Culture and Heritage Awards. The citation honours efforts to restore, protect and revitalise the tangible and intangible culture and heritage of India.

For us, that means a way of travelling that begins with the community. Weavers, jasmine farmers, fishing families, Vedic students and temple priests decide what to share and how much to open. We visit during their real working hours, we pay each community directly as part of the tour cost, and we never ask a guest to tip.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Responsible tourism is not a label. It is an architecture.

Most tours give you forty five minutes in a weaving village and move on. We build journeys the other way round. We start with a community, ask what it wants the world to understand, and design the day around its real work.

That means a specific set of financial, relational and ethical decisions that either hold or they do not. Here are the six we hold to on every responsible journey.

01

Paid directly, never tipped

Each community is paid directly at the time of the visit. The payment is built into the tour cost, so travellers are never asked to give anything beyond the journey itself.

02

Unscripted, on their clock

We visit during actual working hours, around harvests, tides and temple calendars. Nothing is staged for a tourist slot.

03

The community decides

Hosts choose what to share and how much to open. If they want to show the whole production chain, you see it. If they do not, we respect that.

04

At a family table, not a restaurant

You eat home cooked meals with the families you meet and stay in homestays where the journey allows, so spending lands with the people you came to know.

05

Endangered trades come first

We prioritise heritage crafts, including GI tagged and endangered trades, where a dependable international market can decide whether the next generation stays.

06

Small Group and gentle

Every journey is private or in a small group and expertly guided, so a visit feels like a guest arriving, never a crowd.
