Gods Own Country

Over 5 days, we undergo cultural immersion across Kerala. The highlights include exploring the streets of Kochi including the Dutch, Portuguese and Jewish quarters. We ride a boat through canals of Kumbalangy where the experience includes fishing, crab farm visit, coir yarn making, weaving of coconut leaves, Chinese fishing nets and culminates with lunch. We also spend a night on a houseboat on the famed backwaters for a life time of memories. The experience ends after a day on the beaches of Varkala.

Kathakali performance

Kathakali is a dance drama which originated in the 17th century. Dancers get a fantastic makeup and then tell a story, often from the epic Ramayana, through their dance. You will get to see the elaborate make up preparation as well as the main performance of the dancers.

Kerala Folklore Museum

Folklore Museum specializes in architecture and ethnography. It is a treasure trove of stone, wood and bronze sculptures, ancient terracotta, Stone Age objects, jewelry, paintings, oil lamps, musical instruments, tribal and folk art, wood works, utensils, masks and traditional art forms etc. The folklore theatre also features traditional art performances.

Jew town & Paradesi Synagogue

We walk to the famous Jew town and explore Paradesi Synagogue, the oldest Synagogue in commonwealth nations. It was built in 1568 by Sephardic Jews , who were exiled from Spain and Portugal and had settled in Kochi to become prosperous traders. The Synagogue will be closed on Fridays and Saturdays.

Mattancherry Palace

Built by the Portuguese in 1557 and presented to Raja Veera Kerala Varma of Kochi, the Palace was renovated in 1663 by the Dutch. The palace with a Bhagavathi Temple in the central courtyard is built like the typical Kerala style mansion - the Nalukettu - the home of the aristocracy, nobility and upper classes, with four separate wings opening out to a central courtyard.

Houseboat Experience

The houseboat experience on the backwaters of Kerala commences in Alleppey. We start cruising through the lakes; enjoy the panoramic views and the glimpses of the life along the banks. We also visit a historic church. All meals are organized in the house boat itself. We anchor at night in the backwaters.

Varkala Beach

Varkala was known to ancient foreign traders and was referred to as `Balita’ in The Periplus of the Erythraean Sea, the ancient Greek manuscript describing navigation and trading opportunities. Today its one of the best beaches of India. The beach is famous for its mineral springs, believed to have medicinal properties, and the striking geological formations of its cliffs.

Kumbalangy village

We will visit a unique fishing village called Kumbalangy. For the next 4 hours we will ride a country boat and wade through the back waters and experience the village life. The experience includes fishing, crab farm visit, coir yarn making, weaving of coconut leaves, Chinese fishing nets and culminates with lunch.
