City Palace

Perched dramatically above Lake Pichola, the City Palace is the largest royal palace complex in Rajasthan. Built beginning in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh II, the palace grew over four centuries as successive rulers added courtyards, balconies, and ornate halls. Visitors move through labyrinthine passages revealing mirror mosaics, colorful glass windows, and delicate marble balconies overlooking the lake. The palace museum houses royal weapons, miniature paintings, and artefacts that narrate the long history of the Mewar dynasty.

Jagdish Temple

Just outside the palace gates stands this magnificent 17th-century temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Built by Maharana Jagat Singh I in 1651, the temple is known for its richly sculpted pillars and towering shikhara (spire). Visitors climb a grand staircase to reach the sanctum where priests perform daily rituals while bells ring and incense fills the air. The temple offers a glimpse into the living spiritual traditions of the city.

Old City & Bazaar

The narrow lanes surrounding Jagdish Temple form Udaipur’s historic marketplace. Walking through these bustling streets introduces travelers to Rajasthan’s vibrant craft traditions—miniature painting workshops, colorful textiles, silver jewelry, and leather artisans. The area provides an authentic view of everyday life within the centuries-old walled city.

Fareh Sagar Lake

Surrounded by the hills of the Aravalli range, Fateh Sagar Lake offers sweeping views and refreshing breezes. Locals gather along the promenade in the evening, and visitors can enjoy a peaceful moment overlooking the blue waters and distant hills.

Saheliyon Ki Bari

This beautiful garden was built in the 18th century by Maharana Sangram Singh II for the royal ladies of the court. The garden features marble pavilions, lotus pools, and delicate fountains designed to create a cool retreat during Rajasthan’s hot summers. Ingenious gravity-fed hydraulics power many of the fountains, demonstrating the sophisticated water engineering of the era.

Lake Pichola

A boat ride on Lake Pichola is often the most memorable experience of Udaipur. As the boat glides across the calm waters, travellers see spectacular views of the lake palaces, including Jag Mandir Palace and the famous Taj Lake Palace. The sunset bathes the marble buildings in golden light, creating one of the most romantic scenes in Rajasthan.

 Beautiful views, incredible monuments, fun guide. I had a great day! The Amber fort had such beautiful views over the mountains and the city, and the terracotta colour gave the city its own personality. My guide Neeraj was very friendly and good fun which made the experience even more enjoyable! Very grateful.

 Three great days (four nights) in Jaipur with 5 Senses We loved Jaipur! We visited during our 5.5 week north India tour organized by wonderful 5 Senses. (We also spent 3 weeks with them in the south in 2020, just before covid struck.) Because we wanted to be sure to have enough time, and not to have to rush, we spent four nights in the city and did not regret it (except when we had to leave). Our excellent cultural ambassador and friend Balwinder Singh took great care of us, as he always does. We got to see most everything we wanted, including Amber Fort and Palace, the Hawa Mahal, the Jantar Mantar astrological observatory, the Birla and Moti Dungal temples, Jawahar Kala Kendra (art exhibits), and the surprisingly good Albert Hall museum. Balwinder also helped us find a local barber (beard trim for me, haircut for my friend). The total bill was US $1.50. Balwinder booked a local guide for our palace day; he did a good job too. On our way to Jaipur from Agra, Balwinder suggested that we might like to visit Chand Baori stepwell, the oldest and deepest in Rajasthan. Interesting! In Jaipur we stayed in the Crowne Plaza, which we recommend. Nearby is a very nice ayurvedic wellness center (called The Nature: A Complete Wellness Center, I think). An excellent, hour long massage costs just 600 rupees (about US $7.50), and the owner discourages tipping (though we cheated and tipped our guys anyway.) We visited two days in a row. In our experience you can't go wrong with 5 Senses!

 Pink city This was my second tour with this companylon and they did a great job in jaipur as well. Our driver was courteous and safe. The guide was amazing and knew his history. We enjoyed his comany as he took us to some magnificent palaces and forts. The Hawa Mahal was breadth taking and really a sight to behold. The city palace had a beautiful collection of royal possession. My favourite destination was Amber fort. The view of the city with its pink buildings looked surreal. The arrangements of car and hotels were impeccable. Highly recommended
