Nizam’s Legacy
NIZAM'S LEGACY
Half day tour in Hyderabad to Choumahalla Palace, Charminar & Salarjung Museum
The World of Nizams
The Nizams of Hyderabad were, at their peak, the wealthiest individuals on Earth. The last Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan, was once listed by Time magazine as the richest person in the world — a man who used the world's fifth largest diamond as a paperweight and kept a treasury so vast that British officials described it as beyond imagination. This private half-day Hyderabad tour takes you into the world the Nizams built — their most intimate palace, the extraordinary personal collection of their Prime Minister, and the monument that has symbolised the city's grandeur for four centuries.

What to expect
The Nizam’s Legacy tour begins at Chowmahalla Palace — the private residence of the Nizams, a complex of four palaces around a central courtyard where the business of running one of the world’s wealthiest states was conducted. The durbar hall, with its Belgian crystal chandeliers and the Nizam’s throne, is one of the most opulent rooms in India. The collection of vintage cars — including Rolls-Royces that once carried the Nizams through the streets of Hyderabad — is extraordinary. At its peak, 7,000 attendants maintained this palace. Your guide brings the personal and political life of the Nizams to life at every room.
The private Hyderabad half-day tour continues to Salarjung Museum — the most remarkable one-man art collection in the world. Nawab Mir Yusuf Ali Khan Salar Jung III, Prime Minister of the seventh Nizam, spent thirty-five years and a personal fortune assembling 43,000 objects spanning from the 2nd century BC to the early 20th century — European paintings, Mughal manuscripts, jade carvings, Japanese lacquerware, Indian bronzes, and a mechanical double clock whose figures emerge on the hour. The museum that houses this collection is one of the largest in India.
The tour ends at Charminar — the four-minaret monument built in 1591 by Mohammed Quli Qutb Shahi to commemorate the end of a devastating plague, and the symbol that has defined Hyderabad ever since. Your guide will share the legend of the secret tunnel said to run beneath Charminar all the way to Golconda Fort — built as an escape route for the royal family in times of crisis.
